Cleaning out your startup items
To do this follow these steps:
Apple Menu > System Preferences > Accounts > Login Items. You may be surprised at how many there are.

Turn off Universal Access, Bluetooth, Speech Recognition, and Internet Sharing if you don't use them.
To do this follow these steps:
Apple>System preferences then navigate what you want to remove from there.

Delete Widgets and Gadgets you dont use.
There are many of these on your mac but most of them you probably dont use!
To remove a gadget completely, click the + in the lower left corner, click Manage Widgets, then click the red circle next to the gadget you want to remove.
