Changing the Letter of a Drive in Windows

Changing the Letter of a Drive in Windows

This is pretty straight forward, and anyone with Google could figure it out. However, lets get on with it anyways.
I occasionally have to change my drive letters when my external gets in a funk, and is recognized under a different alias!
Why does this matter you may ask? Well, if you have programs that are pointed to a location on your drive,
then you need the drive to always have the same destination. Otherwise things break. Like iTunes!

Step 1: Open your windows start menu by pressing the blip icon, or hitting the windows icon on your keyboard.

Step 2: Type "Disk Management" into the search bar.
(Note: Alternatively type "diskmgmt.msc" and hit enter, and it will auto-launch. Windows 7 only. Skip to Step 4)

Step 3: Click "Create and Format Hard Disk Partitions"

The following window will open:

Step 4: Determine which drive you desire to change. The name of your drive should be displayed.

Step 5: Right click on the volume name, and select "Change Drive Letter and Paths".

You should see the following window:

Step 6: Simply click "change", select a new letter, and hit OK.

Step 7: Close everything and you're done!

Enjoy :)
